Þingvellir National Park
Set on the picturesque valley right where the North American tectonic plate tears away from the Eurasian plate, Þingvellir National Park is the most historically significant site in Iceland. This is where the Vikings established the first parliament (Alþingi) in 930 AD and is where all important decisions affecting the country were made. The Church to the left, Þingvallakirkja is one of the first in Iceland consecrated in the 11th century but the current structure dates back to the mid 19th century. The house to the right (Þingvallabaer built on the 1000th anniversary of the Alþingi in 1930) serves as the Prime Minister's summer home.Þingvellir National ParkAlþingiÞingvallakirkjaÞingvallabaerIceland Riftvalleymountainrivertravel photographyprismascapeHDRlandscape
